Laboratory

The Clinical Laboratory is located on the ground floor of the Ehrling Bergquist Clinic. Patients will go to the laboratory for specimen collection or set an appointment for collection of samples requiring patient preparation.

  • All children aged 10 and older must present a military or government-issued ID card when requesting care at the clinic.
  • The laboratory doesn’t provide results directly to patients over the phone; please contact the ordering provider for results or log into MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to view results.

The clinical laboratory also supports the fight against cancer as a Salute to Life C.W. Bill Young/Department of Defense National Marrow Donor Registration Site.

Services Provided

We offer the following services:

  • Hematology
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Immunology
  • Urinalysis
  • Microbiology

Tests not performed in-house are referred to other military and civilian facilities for testing. Testing requests for patients are entered electronically by the provider, or by the laboratory staff based on written orders signed by a provider.

How to Make an Appointment

Most laboratory tests do not require appointments and are collected on a walk-in basis.

If your provider requests that you make an appointment for your lab work or if you are unsure if test preparation or fasting is required, please call 402-294-6580 during business hours.

Important Information

What are the fasting instructions?

Fast for 9-12 hours before your lab draw. No not eat or drink anything except plain water. You can take medications as long as they don’t need to be taken with food; otherwise, please wait until your blood is drawn. You may eat a snack after your blood draw.

What does my off-base provider need to include on an order for lab work?

The following information is required on outside orders/scripts:

  • Patient’s full name and date of birth
  • Fax number or phone number
  • Provider’s name and signature.

Results from outside orders will be faxed to the requesting provider when results are available.

Do I need an appointment for a glucose tolerance test?

No appointment is needed for a one-hour or three-hour glucose tolerance test.

I know I need labs for my Individual Medical Readiness clearance, can I just come to the lab?

If you are due for labs, please contact Base Operational Medicine Clinic (BOMC) first so you are aware of which tests are due. If your labs have already been completed but your IMR still shows red, please contact BOMC with a message through the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal or by calling 402-232-2273 option 3, then option 1, then option 5.
