Laboratory

The Clinical Laboratory provides hematology, clinical chemistry, immunology, urinalysis, and microbiology testing. Tests not done in-house are referred to other military and civilian facilities for testing. Testing requests for patients are entered electronically by the provider, or by the laboratory staff based on written orders signed by a provider. Patients will go to the laboratory for specimen collection or set an appointment for collection of samples requiring patient preparation.

All children aged 10 and older must present a military or government-issued ID card when requesting care at the clinic.

The laboratory doesn’t provide results directly to patients over the phone; please contact the ordering provider for results.

The clinical laboratory also supports the fight against cancer as a Salute to Life C.W. Bill Young/Department of Defense National Marrow Donor Registration Site.
 

Lab Frequently Asked Questions

What are the fasting instructions?
Fast for 12-14 hours before your lab draw. This means nothing to eat or drink, except plain water. You can take medications as long as they don’t need to be taken with food; otherwise, please wait until your blood is drawn. You may eat a snack after your blood draw.

What does my off-base provider need to include on an order for lab work?
The following information is required on outside orders/scripts: Patient’s full name and date of birth, fax number or phone number, provider’s name and signature. Results from outside orders will be faxed to the requesting provider when results are available.

Do I need an appointment for a glucose tolerance test?
No appointment is needed for a one-hour or three-hour glucose tolerance test.

I know I need labs for my Individual Medical Readiness clearance, can I just come to the lab?
If you’re due for labs, please contact Public Health first so you’re aware of which tests are due. If your labs have already been completed but your IMR still shows red, please contact Public Health at 402-294-8009.
